Best Version of Me

I am not perfect and I have no desire to be

But there is a God in me that I hope you can see

So I keep trying to be the best version of me

I don't need lies to survive my life

I don't need scribes to know God is for me

I just listen to my own voice

Hear the rhythm of my own heart

Follow the path of my own instinct

Learn the lessons from my poor choices

Trust the divine because God's ever before me

If God wanted to make me David, I would be the one who killed goliath

But God made me, me because I've got my own story

So while I value what wisdom is in this book

I won't go beyond a look

I don't want to live the past, I write my own history

I am not here to live Samuel's life

Neither to walk in Daniel's shoes

Nor am I interested in walking Jesus' path

I have my own purpose, though I may reference their charts

The church can be a good place, but it must change, evolve

Anything that remains stagnant stinks

So it's time to wake up and think

Instead of pretending to be who we're not

How about we just stop

And try to be ourselves and truly have each other's back

I am not perfect and I have no desire to be

But there is a God in me that I hope you can see

So I keep trying to be the best version of me
